Garrett Rowlan lives in Los Angeles and works as a substitute teacher. He has written essays on Julio Cortázar and Caribbean magic realism for Margin, and on William Gaddis and Borges for The Modern Word. His "review" of Joseph McElroy's "Lookout Cartridge" won third place in The Modern Word's "Adaptation" contest, and a short piece is due out in Margin. Stories have appeared in the Antigonish Review, Maryland Review, Coe Review, Karamu, and others. He leads a literature discussion group at Vroman's bookstore in Pasadena.
